This is really beautiful. Your colors, diagonals and composition are super, John. I love the way the sun is shining across the trees. Good work with this.
I'm having trouble taking Jim Bobcat serious with that avie, but he sure knows what he's talking about in this one. I think they're closer to the setting sun than to the rising sun. The days of sunlight are behind them. They can still look in the water and see the reflection of the sun and their comrades that are still standing. Now they're just nourishment for the bottom feeders. They're stumped as what to do next. Sorry John.
That's spooky John! I had to look at it really closely to work out what was going on. I think it's the grey appearance of the bottom of the tree trunks being reflected, it makes it look as though they're very tall trees with a two-tone trunk. It's a really interesting shot, I like the unusual colours very much and as so often with your shots you have given it a poignant twist with the title.
This looks like it was a challenge to photograph John, but you did very well. Slight noise in the water, but that is because of the high ISO setting, but love the reflections and the dark colours - very atmospheric!
