Shattered

"There is neither happiness nor unhappiness in this world; there is only the comparison of one state with another. Only a man who has felt ultimate despair is capable of feeling ultimate bliss. It is necessary to have wished for death in order to know how good it is to live.....the sum of all human wisdom will be contained in these two words: Wait and Hope."

~~ Alexandre Dumas (The Count of Monte Cristo)

Nice one, John.

Thumbnail caught my eye in and amongst the new images.. and here I be.

Interesting to me, in that in employing a warmer palette, which seemingly (and might) contradict the visual message of sorts ... that is, until one reads your accompanying narrative.

Her mouth (area) is a tad more prominent. Curious if by design, creative aim?

And the additional texturing is exquisite. The final image is very polished.

And but of course, thank you for sharing this thought provoking piece with us.

p.s. Any use of displacement maps?

Looks to be, and if not and for your creative future consideration.. here you go, in case unawares:

Photoshop Tutorial: Displacement Maps

Loads of other tutorials out there as well, the above one is quite succinct and concise.

I like what Les pointed out, that is, the very warm palette in juxtaposition with subject matter and title. As my husband says, "We've already gone crazy." So I've been there a time or two, making this very subjective for me. Absolutely a work of art.

It's probably the heavy snorer sleeping beside her that shatters her peaceful night's sleep. A great looking abstract, John. Nice warm colour tones, emphasizing the 'heat' of (internal) conflict perhaps.

I like the contrast. Good creation.

A truly stunning and creative piece or work. Sad and forlorn, almost desolate. When I suggested emptiness as a topic, I wanted people to try and express the emotion rather than just show pictures, to go beyond the image and generate that feeling of emptiness one gets with a deep loss. This image does just that. It epitomises the goal of the contest in a beautiful way.

An excellent interpretation of the subject. The contrasts of color, her sideways position and shattered visuals add so many elements to consider. I sense a pervading notion of lost as much as loss.
