For the final test, they took her walking
Through rusted hallways and down
Deep into forever
Past the ancient machines
And the ghosts of hope
She passed metal stanchions that devoured light
Stairways twisted and stopped
Terminating nowhere
Fluorescent humming accompanied the sounds of bare feet on metal
As she lost herself deeper

Then they were upon the void
An endless black
She looked and felt its
frighteningly friendly grasp
Pipes ran down
And disappeared
Into the textured abyss
She followed them
With crawling eyes
Until they melted into
Omnipresent shadow
A hand guided her away from the yawning maw
And to the words
Inscribed like clawing scratches on the metal wall beside the gaping empty
“Here came machines
To build us a new world.
They failed
And built us a prison
Now we will never again feel
Sun
To those born in darkness
Strive for light
But beware the infinite
And the empty black”
She turned and asked
“What is the sun?”
“We don't know”
Replied the big man,
“That's so sad. ”
“Yes child, it is”

It took me a moment to recall (Covid. That is my excuse and I am sticking to it) of what this appeared to be a tight crop: M.C. Escher^s Mobius Strip, a play on the symbol of infinity. Cool Beans!

John, I agree with 'Nik' about his comparison with one of Maurits Escher his works.
Your render can be qualified as ingenious too.
S+F. Thanks for sharing this intriguing post, 👍 !

The narration is rather dauntingly scary. I find the image soothing and relaxing - like a sea of autumn foliage. Infinitely peaceful. Infinitely beautiful. I give it a score of 8+2 out of 10 :)

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
