Your image is just bursting with sunshine! I think if the background were toned down a bit, it might help to accent your main focus. But this just shouts summer.
I agree with Alexis, Matthew. This does shout summer. Two things I'd change if I could. The subject flowers seem just a hair over-exposed (although you could just tell anyone who argues that it gives them a glow since they do look nice). The other thing is I think the in-focus flower cut-off at the top is a bit distracting. I'd like to shift the frame down to remove it and maybe an inch to the left to bring the others into the picture a bit more.
I think I disagree with Alexis about the background in this case. Because your subject is so small I think the vibrant colors in the background just add to the overall quality of the shot, especially for a desktop background. The only time I look for a really understated background is if the subject just stops you in your tracks, whereas in this case I think your subject(s) are just one of the nice elements in the photo. Great eye for beauty, it's been many moons since I took any photos in my own yard :)
I really love all the brilliant colors. Also, the over-exposure on the petals gives off a warm feeling rather than a cheap one. On the other hand, the bokeh in this image is pretty (not your fault, mind you). I would recommend trying a way to soften it up. Maybe a grain removal program could handle it, but if not, softening the background would work just fine.
You've received alot of advice here already but I will say that at least you found some healthy subjects which I do appreciate. I also like the attempt to have the focus on the left but I do wish there were at least one clear flower I could focus on that wasn't either cropped or overexposed. Perhaps the two blooms at the top with their different bloom stages and contrasting oranges could have put on a nice show too.
