Melk seems to ring the bell ...
Name of the Rose. One of them monks was of Melk.
Anyhow this is quite another story as the timing is different.
Magnificent ceiling and I would - of course if possible - like to see more of the monastery ballroom including.
BTW long time - no see, dear friend !!!

A monastery, hosting a ball???? Now I've heard it all.

Anyway, it's a beautiful photograph, and I, too, would enjoy seeing more of this subject.

Beautiful photograph. And for those who may not know, please look up the history of the place since this wasn't a monastery at first, but a palace which was willed to the Dominican order of monks -- I believe it was Dominicans. Anyway, this wasn't built to be a monastery. Hope it helps to keep the Catholic faith in proper perspective.

Emil

For the record, Emil is largely correct. The monastery was a gift from the emperor to the Benedictines. The ball room obviously was not built for the monks, but for the imperial guests to use during their visits. By no means did I want to give the impression that the monks were the ones hosting any balls that took place here. =)
