It took me forever to get a dragonfly picture on my Canon a650 IS, but when I finally got it, I quickly used the manual focus because the automatic settings were trying to focus on the leaf and not the dragonfly. Then I got this shot. It makes a great desktop background, especially if you like dragonflies.

Let's see if this one will get higher than a 50 in the VB.

Don't be too focused on the C-index...for a long time I struggled to get over that little number. It's nice to have a high score, but I like to use the number of views/downloads as well as types of comments to gauge how well I did.

As for the dragonfly...I really like this one. You hardly ever see them with their wings flapped down like this (especially when resting). The focus, clarity and detail on the dragonfly are fantastic. Some parts are a bit bright and overexposed, but I don't think it detracts much from the shot. Very nicely done...definitely does deserve better than a 50 ;)

He must have been resting because every other dragonfly would land and fly off instantly but this little guy just sat there for literally three minutes while I toyed with the exposure. And my camera kept wanting to focus on the leaf and made the dragonfly blurry. So I used the manual focus which is pretty hard on my camera since you press the left and right button, but this ended up being the clearest shot I've ever gotten out of manual focus.

I noticed that it was a teeny bit overexposed in some areas, but when I made the picture big, it seemed to fit. I even darkened it a little in Photoshop to see what it would look like and it didn't seem as good... like something was missing... the brightness fills that in.

Thanks for the comment. :]

I like this macro, you got a good angle. You will improve with practice. The wings are nice and sharp. And welcome to Caedes, a great place to share your art and make friends....Gregg.

Great capture, I like the drogonfly's body follows the line of the leaf behind and the arrowhead it forms with the red part of the leaf it's on. The DOF certainly focus's attention on the dragonfly well. Ray
