This is a new series, consisting of 7 images. In this series I will show you some aspects of the kite-surfing sport, from preparation to some action shots. Kite-surfing is a rather dangerous sport. In the province of Zeeland, a kite surfer lost his life and one was serious injured last week.

On this image you can see that a kite-surfer is testing his kite before he starts surfing.

Images are taken on Sunday, May 10th 2009, at a beach on the northern part of the peninsula Walcheren, Zeeland, The Netherlands.

Hope you'll like this series. Thank you in advance for your comment.

I wonder why so many get their 'thrills' from danger eh!...

I get a thrill every time I wake up?...it means I am still able to get out with my camera!....

Nice capture of this..and looking forward to the rest!...

A fine shot Sir C! I would take the photos from the ground though. Too old to be trying to be a bird!

Kite-surfing is also a "madness" in Germany. Lessons by professionals cost about $ 150/- a day. It must be a tremendous strain on the arms, I can imagine. Nice shot here Cornelius.

Wow, Cornelius super action capture of this wind surfer. I sure don't blame him for testing out the kite. You sure wouldn't catch me doing that, not my liking. Beautiful colours and scene, love the little beach houses in a row.

That is something I have always wanted to try. However, it would take a kite bigger than that to get me air borne.

We have a lot of kite surfing here in ORegon...it's such fun to watch. We have the famous Columbia River here, which is where the Oregon Trail people, the Pioneers of old, came up and now the waters are so strong that these surfers hang out there. And of course at the Pacific Ocean also. I like that you are posting these, it's something unique and something we will all enjoy. But is this guy "surfing" on the sand? Here we do it on the water :) Nice commentary you have here and great colours of that day. Verena

What an amazing sport. It seems that if something can be done, men will do it simply because they can, but it must be a very exhilarating experience to do this. I have seen people use these kinds of kites with small wheeled vehicles to pull them across the sand, but never actually seen anyone kite surfing. You've opened a whole new idea for me with these shots. Cornelius. Thank you.
