The outward bound seagoing vessel (tanker) is approaching a thunderstorm. The sailboat however has only about one mile to go, to find shelter in the yacht-harbour of Flushing. This image was recently taken on the coast of peninsula Walcheren, Zeeland, The Netherlands, where the Western Scheldt river flows into the Northsea.

Hope you'll like this image. Thank you in advance for your comment.

Absolutely marvellous - a prize winner Cornelius! The sunlight escaping through the dark clouds and falling on the superstructure of the tanker, the small sailing vessel, the water and the beach all of these together make this a real beauty!

It is known that there is an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the product of a deranged imagination.

Cornelius - That is a very ominous sky! The sailboat has the better option of getting to port. The diffused sunlight is quite special in your photo, glistening on the superstructure of the ship and giving the sails a translucent look. Excellent work! Thad

It is your very best Sir Sea. It is great that a person with the love of the water and their strong beliefs was given the opportunity to photograph this great scene. I don't think it was an accident you were there. 10/10 or higher if I could.
Good health to you and yours.

An absolute cracker of a picture Cornelius that has such wonderful elements to it. The sky is stunning and I love the sunlight shinning through the sail. The people in the bottom left help to add scale to the whole. Fabulous!

I would just like to add bit of apposite music. So here's Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture.

Fantastic Mr C, the contrast of pleasure and working craft and the angles of sunlight and jetty both pointing to them, the contrast of colours at top and bottom with the neutral in the middle, all just works to perfection.

A double "wow"... first and foremost for the photo, C. Beautiful contrasts between dark and light, the sun glinting off the ship's sharp points, between the tiny sail on the boat and the massive tanker, between the rippled waves and the long and strong crepuscular rays angling in from the sun. A keeper for sure and into my favorites and onto my desktop. The other "wow" is trying to imagine any of my submissions getting 3 dozen comments (then again, there's a lot less activity at Caedes in 2017 than in 2009, unfortunately).
