This is one of the statues in The Netherlands of our late and, by a lot of Dutch people, beloved Queen Mother Emma. This statue can be found in the town of Middelburg, Zeeland. On the pedestal is written a saying of her: "Nederland zij groot in alles waarin ook een klein volk groot kan zijn." (Holland, be great in everything in which even a small nation can be great as well.) Wise words and an inspiration for a lot of my countrymen and -women.

Hope you'll like this 'shoebox' post. Thank you in advance for your comment.

Great shot taken from the park and through the trees. Wonderful colours and very good composition. Shouldn't have been in the shoe box Cornelius.

Deze foto vertelt veel! Geschiedenis en het heden in een. Ik ben zeer enthousiast over de compositie keuze, diepte en ondanks veel onderwerpen rustgevend! Knap werk Cornelius! Mich

Absolutely gorgeous. There are some queens that have capacity to reach population heart.
In Italy we had our beloved Queen Helene of Savoy still celebrated because her fight against cancer and the major Cancer/Hospital Research in Rome is entitled to her.
Thanks for this picture.

You hear so much about the Royal Family in England, and nothing about the Monarchy in Holland. So, I did some quick Googling. Very interesting to read about Queen Beatrix. I will have to continue reading. Thanks for sharing this beautiful picture of the statue of Queen Mother Emma. Her surrounds looks gorgeous, Mr. C. Excellent post.

As JimboB stated, sometimes posts send us off to learn. This is one of those. I always get confused about what is the Netherlands and what is Holland. After reading about it, I now know the difference. A beautiful shot.

Beautiful... the clarity and the bright colors are wonderful. A bright, colorful background like this sometimes detracts from the central theme but in your image you've made it look thoroughly integrated. Good one!
