Think this butterfly was wrong as it visited a non flowering cactus. Hadn't expected that it would 'land' there, but I was just in time to capture it.

Thank you in advance for your comment.

Edit: comparing Ron's (aka Tick) and Pat's (aka Momma) comment below, like to conclude that the depicted size of the butterfly is just a matter of taste. Hope this series will meet all your wishes.

I have developed a whole new gait from chasing butterflies Sea. It is kind of a floating clumsiness.
A beautiful shot and I love the color of the butterfly.
I like shots like this. Too many think you have to have just the butterfly full screen.
Good health to you and yours.

Perfect focus and color on the butterfly. I would have liked more butterfly and less cactus, however.

Good choice this combination.. the cactus is almost a main subject too what makes it so interesting. A very unique composition! The butterfly has a deep beautiful colour, like this a lot! What I enjoy also is the light.. perfect! Mich

When you see the whole picture as a desktop image the small butterfly is quite O.k. especially because it is so brightly coloured. I would say this is a very nice capture very well composed, Cornelius.

That looks very uncomfortable for the butterfly. But it is a beautiful shot for us. Excellent, Mr. C.

Cactus not too sharp to outdo the butterfly, and just adds to the shot of this beautiful coloured butterfly.Nicely done!

A red beauty. I do enjoy the diverse setting on the cactus. Seems an oxymoron somehow, thorns and butterfly...: ) Excellent details. Saved.

Now THAT'S a remarkable image. Wonderful color in that butterfly and such great contrast against the drab color of the cactus; contrast of delicate creature against prickly plant. The only thing I think I might have done differently was to crop so the butterfly doesn't land in the bulls-eye zone, cardinal rule of photography. With an imaginary thirds grid, I'd have cropped the bottom and right so the butterfly would be at that lower thirds intersection. Just my opinion ;) Beautiful shot. anne =D

Tell me if you like it or don't but be sure to tell me why! I promise to always give honest and sincere (albeit gentle when necessary) critiques. MY NEW YEARS TIP for all, go have some fun with your new gear you got for Christmas. Do some things you rarely or never do. If you always shoot scenics, go shoot macros (or as close up as you can get.) Practice on different subjects, try new lighting techniques, bracket your shots (shoot the same image at different exposures and different apertures), get down low and shoot from your back, your belly, and your knees. Bend, twist, lean and climb up on things. Shoot toward the sky (carefully - blown out sunlight is NOT attractive :-) Just do something different and amaze yourself then share with us :-) Love you Caedians.
