The Eastern Scheldt Storm Surge Barrier, called 'Oosterscheldekering' in Dutch, was designed to protect the (southern part of the) Netherlands from flooding. For detailed information about this nine kilometres long Storm Surge Barrier, please check-out this link and/or this link.

Hope you like this image. Thank you in advance for your comment.

Edit: my thoughts and prayers are with the potential victims wich may be affected from the hurricane 'Irene' who is hitting the eastern states of the USA now. Wish them a lot of strenght and hope they will not be flooded, wounded, and will not have material dammage.

Just two days ago there was a documentary about the history of dykes in Holland. That was all in the past. One couldn't dream of something like this those days. Beautiful view of this feat of high technique Cornelius.

I like the way you have composed this, Mr. C., but I am only 5'8", and I am having trouble seeing over the mound and grass. LOL. I love the greenish color of the water, and that gorgeous sky. Very nicely done.

Beautiful colors and a great angle, Cornelius. Weathering a hurricane at this moment. Winds will only get up to 60 mph here, but flooding and wind damage could be extensive. We could use barriers like this along our coastline. Such a pleasant image.

Mr C - Can my home state of Connecticut borrow this barrier for a few days. I type this as Hurricane Irene comes toward us, threatening some significant storm surges along the coastline. Your photo has all of the typical attributes of your fine work! Thad

The 'Deltawerken' are impressive to see with your own eyes as I did once. Your photo gives a very good impression of the opportunity to protect this part of the Netherlands. A beautiful photo with the friendly dunes in the foreground. Indrukwekkende foto! My thought are also with the people, the victims of the hurricane . Mich

Excellent protection is given by this barrier. My daughter, in Virginia, had an earthquake last week and the hurricane this week. Several huge oak trees landed on roofs in the neighborhood. The roads are blocked. They are without electricity. It's a primitive way of life for them. Fortunately, since this isn't the first hurricane, they have a generator and are able to run their refrigerators. Last time they were without electricity for 2 weeks.
