I see plenty of people out along the walking trail and beach enjoying the fine day before the cold winds of winter arrive. Yes the beach grasses are turning to the Autumn colors of yellows and browns. What is the square red and white tower? A lighthouse? a very fine photo

Answer to Diane's question above: the Western Scheldt (river) is the approach to ports like Antwerp, Ghent and Flushing. The sealanes to the Western Scheldt have a very tricky character. This implicates that mates, chiefs and captains of ships/vessels which have to make a port call to one of these ports, have to be very steady.
In order to prevent accidents, a lot of navigational aids were constructed. This 'lighthouse' in the dunes of the peninsula Walcheren, Zeeland, the Netherlands, act as such a navigational aid. Not far from this 'lighthouse' there's an identical one, built in the dunes as well, but at higher elevations. They're acting as a couple. During the night a light source in both of those two towers is emitting a continuous light. The helsman has to navigate his ship/vessel coastwise in such a way that the upper light shall be seen straight under the lower light. The ship/vessel will so be guided through some dangerous areas. At daytime nearly the same procedure can be used as the helmsman has to bring the lower tower optically under the upper tower. Nowadays it's mostly done on radar and/or with satellite navigation. Nautical people call these towers 'Lichtlijn Kaapduin' (lightline at Kaapduin). When coming from the sea, the first port is Flushing. Once in the neighbourhood of Flushing a pilot will take over the navigation, but not the command of the ship/vessel. That's up to the captain because he/she stays responsible all the time.

Cornelius.

Cornelius - Your added narrative is fascinating, explaining the planned construction of lighthouses. I find the comparison of spring and autumn scenes equally interesting. Even the sea grasses have subtle changes in the seasons. Well done, my friend! Thad

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . I like the colors and the angle better in this one Sea. Your additional information makes this a winner. I felt like a student with the instructor teaching.
Good health to you and yours.

I can see the area of the other shot just over the top of the striped structure. Dishoek Beach looks great any time of the year, I bet. I love the golden tones of this fall shot. Beautiful work again, Mr. C. (No, I don't have a good memory. I peeked at one of your older shots of this area to get the name Dishoek Beach.) LOL.

Great shot of the 'autumn' dunes, was there last Friday and even the beach houses are not there anymore and that says that summer season is over...unfortunally...
