Depicted is the traditional windmill "d'Heesterboom" (shrub tree) in Leiden, a town in the province of South-Holland, the Netherlands. The mill dates from 1804 and was built for the sawing of wood.

When you'll check-out THIS LINK you may see a YouTube video wich gives you an impression of the functioning of such a sawmill (I used 'may' because I really hope that this video can be seen in other countries too rather than only mine).

Hope you'll like this image. Thanks in advance for your comment.

Very clear details on the mill and surroundings Nice composition too Cornelius. Thanks for the link. It works here. I have only seen one mill in action in South Germany and I was impressed.

Nice composition on this Windmill. I recall visiting Leiden a few years ago when I toured most of the country. I even have a tourist photo of me and the wife dressed in traditional clothing. Bravo!

My late grandfather would have loved the sawmill video SEA. He was a sawyer and sawed lumber for many people in his lifetime.
What a wonderful shot of the windmill. I didn't see its name anywhere so I will call it Ted after my grandfather.

One of my childhood friends and her family had emigrated to Peoria Il here in the states from Leiden her name was Catherina and she had beautiful blond braids. Now that memory goes back about 55 years! Lovely scene Mr.C - very evocative.

This is so interesting.. it's like with the human body.. you just see the beauty outside but do not always realise what it takes to keep it running and well at all times..
Thank you for sharing the youtube clip.
Thank you for the lovely clear capture of this awesome machine.. it's beautiful!!
