This is the sculpture of Frans Naerebout (1748-1818) at the seafront in Flushing, Zeeland, The Netherlands.

Frans Naerebout was not only an excellent harbor pilot but a brave lifesaver (rescuer of shipwrecked) as well (he rescued hundreds of people on several occasions). In Holland we have still nowadays the saying 'Onverschrokken Naerebout'. It's only said to a person who has courage and is fearless.

I wonder if there has ever been a movie done about him. You would think a man like him and his heroic acts would have been memorialized on film. I bet there are some documentaries about him in your country. Your image is beautifully composed, Mr. C. I love the view of the buildings on the waterfront, and you always capture a beautiful sky in your photography. Well done, Sir.

Excellent work on this Mr. C. - clear focus on the statue but still taking in the rest of the deep scene.

What a great man he was SEA. His deeds of "bravery," are legendary.
To think someone would lay their life on the line for their fellow man. To me the greatest of all traits.
You have captured the soul of the man with your composition.

Cornelius - With the sea is such an important part of the traditional life in the Netherlands, it is fitting that tribute be given to a hero of a lifesaver and harbor pilot. Your outstanding photography is a further honor to this man.

Mr. Naerebout's backstory is quite impressive Mr. C. and will be remembered for his bravery and altruistic manner!! It's a fine statue honoring his heroism and well photographed on your part. I love how you composed the shot with Mr. Naerebout looking out toward the sea as if he is looking for another rescue. Superb shot and excellent narrative!!!

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
