Think it's time to provide my 'foreign' Caedes-friends (lol) with a capture of a traditional Dutch windmill again. This time it's the 'Koornbloem' ('Cornflower' aka Centaurea cyanus) situated on the outskirts of the town of Goes, Zeeland, The Netherlands.

Very nice and typical Dutch scene. Makes me want to know more about windmills, how they were invented, what they look like inside, etc.

-Referring to Alex's comment: Although in the Dutch language, by checking-out this link you'll find almost any kind of information about the traditional Dutch windmills. To understand the more technical details, you can use a translator (e.g. the S3.Google Translator).

-Referring to Laura's comment: when I took this capture this mill wasn't grinding, but is capable to do so. At least one day a week (Saturday) it's in function. People can make an appointment to visit the mill (inside and outside) then.

Alex (GomekFlorida) has forwarded me a question by PM.

I've given him an answer. Because it could be interesting to you as well, I'll provide you with this additional comment.

Alex's question: I notice the blades of the windmill sweep close to the ground. Do people get hurt or killed getting too close to the blades?

My answer:

Hello Alex,
When the mill is grinding, the lowest vertical position that can be reached by the blades is the first floor level. That's for two reasons: to catch sufficient wind and for protecting the people on the ground floor. You can see a kind of a terrace/platform on the first floor. It has more entrances, only reachable from the inside of the mill. Only the miller is allowed to enter this terrace/platform by opening one of the doors. Once he's on the terrace/platform, he can stop or start grinding and can bring the mill in the optimal azimuth position for grinding. The latter will be done by a kind of steering wheel that can be seen on this image.
The vertical angle of the blades is to a certain extent adjustable too for selecting the proper turning/rotating speed of the blades. When there's only less wind, a kind of sails can be attached by the blades as well.
