It was announced in our local newspaper, so I took the opportunity to approach and capture the MSC Zoe, the largest container ship of the world (as of August 2015) at a very short, but for the image appropriate, distance. It was really impressive to see her passing by on its way to the port of Antwerp, Belgium.
Some characteristics (source by Wikipedia): at nearly the length of four American football fields laid end to end (395 meters or 1,296 feet), the MSC Zoe has a draft of 16 meters or 52 feet; she can carry the equivalent of more than 120 million pairs of sneakers. She has a capacity of 19,224 TEU and a deadweight of 199,272 DWT.
Propulsion: the MSC Zoe's main engine is a two-stroke MAN B&W 11S90ME-C diesel engine, which is a height of 15.5 meters or 51 feet, a length of 25 meters or 82 feet and a breadth of 11 meters or 36 feet.
The engine has a maximum continuous rating of 62.5 MW (83,800 hp) at 62.5 rpm and a normal continuous rating of 56.25 MW (75,430 hp) at 79.4 rpm.
