This image comes from one of my 'bins'.

When I took this capture of the tall ship 'Astrid', I didn't realize that it was to a certain extent a historical image, because this 'lady' (ships are female) was sailing outward bound to her (not meant) last voyage.

A couple of days later (July, 24th 2013) the 'Astrid' was stranded on the rocky coast of Ireland. The 'Astrid' was built in 1918 as a lugger. In 1999/2000 the 'Astrid' was converted into a traditional, luxury sailing vessel. For the complete story, please check-out this link.

A pity that this beautiful ship had such a terrible end. Very nice shot showing all the details so well Cornelius. I have read the link and it is indeed very sad to lose such a ship in this way. "Astrid" was a beautiful lady.

I think this is a superb image of her, a thought crossed my mind that perhaps it might be worthy to try to share this wonderful image of yours with someone connected with Astrid. tigs=^..^=

Surely a ship this lovely will sail again. What a bunch of rigging. Must require a lot of knowledge to run that baby.

Last Voyage, such a shame but not an unusual ending for such a vessel.
Nice work C.

A beautiful image Mr. C. and quite historical as it turned out. I agree with Sandi's suggestion.

A great shot of the maze of rigging on these vessels. I hope they were able to save her.
