This is the former HNLMS (His Majesty Netherlands Ship) 'De Buffel' ('The Buffalo') depicted in the Maritime Museum Rotterdam, before she was moved to Hellevoetsluis, a former 'Navy Town' in The Netherlands as well.

It's my weekly entry for the Wednesday B&W challenge.

Your B/W presentation does this fine, historic sailing vessel justice, Cornelius. Best of luck in the BWC.

A wonderful photo Cornelius and I enjoyed reading about this amazing vessel. Almost 150 years old and looking fabulous :)

Thank you for putting it in the BWC.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

A striking photograph of this old warship. The b/w version has brought out the details so clearly. A perfect entry for the challenge.

Dearest Agent SEAS,
This ship is like a Greek goddess of wisdom and also victory in ancient Greek mythology, Athena. Proud, glorious and almost equally ancient, yet a perfect lady. Image is perfect in b/w I agree - although I can imagine it in colour, still this is the creme de la creme.
Hugs and kisses,

Wonderful detail on this ship and in very impressive condition as well for its age. Of course your photograph is very striking in bringing out the character of this ship.

It was Brunel who made the propeller popular and made ships like this possible. A fine entry for the b/w challenge C.

I found it interesting that this was the first Royal Netherlands Navy ship without sails SEA. Phlossie was right on with his remarks.
Great shot and looks good in b/w.
