Depicted is the village Zoutelande, Zeeland, The Netherlands.

Zoutelande means literally 'Salty land' ('Salsa Terra' in the Latin language). I supposed that Zoutelande was given its name because it's adjacent to and at least once was flooded by the North Sea (on this image one can clearly see that the inhabitants and tourists of Zoulande are living below sea level), but some research from my side has learned that its medieval name was Zoetelande (sweet land). Rather confusing, isn't it?

The huge wind vane (with the name 'Salsa Terra' on its pedestal), with the 'Zoutelande coat of arms', shows the weather direction to the tourists. It's an indication for the weather too: an offshore east wind (in this case) means, on the one hand, good and stable weather, but, is on the other hand, a risk to bathers because of the water flow in the 'wrong' direction.
