Long time ago, I've provided you with a rather similar image. Then I was asked: "Cornelius, what's the function of the colored ropes attached to the nets?" I'm a retired seaman, but not a fisherman, so I couldn't give you the answer.
Therefore I've asked an old skipper of such a fishing boat if he could give me the reason why one has to do so. His answer was simple: "Because the net is dragged over the seabed, it is subject to wear and tear. The colored ropes serve as a kind of slider for the reduction of wear. The color is arbitrary. Usually one uses splitted old nylon ships moorings for this purpose." I could have know this, lol.
PS: I can't be on Caedes till at least Wednesday, July 20th!
