In my comment on Pat's image, I've said: "Recently I've captured a Dutch Chinook while performing a fire extinguishing exercise. I'll post it later."

In order to fulfill this 'promise', here it is.

They do a great job...but there doesn't seems much water to put out a serious fire....

Excellent shot on this!..

In addition to Bob's comments above: the Chinook drops a so-called Bambi bucket (water bag) into the sea. This is filled with 10,000 liters of water and, once on the spot, this water mass is poured into the fire.

That is a lot of weight for a small aircraft which I expect was specially made for this work. Very nice action shot Cornelius.

Well captured Cornelius. These folk do a wonderful job.
One of our NZ firefighters was killed just the other day firefighting in Australia when his Monsoon bucket became entangled with a tree. So sad, They are very brave.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

This is a common sight in our extensive fires out west - excellent capture.
