If the butterfly could speak, maybe it has said: "I couldn't approach the flower because of the sprigs and stalks. Hope however that you'll realize that it's a steep climb to me in order to still reach the nectar, ☺ ."

Image was taken recently in a Dutch butterfly garden.

The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB

But, the curled probosces is ready for the nectar. A lovely capture, with great use of negative space.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Butterflies are a challenge to shoot because of their flighty nature (not to be too punish about it), taking off if you get too close. Only by watching to see where they repeatedly land and then setting up your camera close to that spot and refocusing with a macro lens, or being lucky enough to catch one just after sunrise after a cold night can you do better. Overnight temperatures of 45 F or less means a butterfly is pretty much frozen in place until the sun warms them up, usually giving the photographer 10 to 20 minutes of free shooting, depending on the strength of the sun. Your focus on this monarch is just a tiny bit soft but, considering that you had to shoot from a distance, through vegetation, it turned out quite good. The soft bokeh and the clarity of the blade it is sitting on are both a bonus. Nice work, C (I cannot remember the last time I got 10 comments on an image).
