This autumn photograph was taken on one of the ramparts of Middelburg, a town in Zeeland, The Netherlands. These ramparts surrounded the medieval town and were intended as a defense work. Now they are surrounded by relatively new suburbs in the middle of the contemporary town now because Middelburg, like all cities, has expanded.
