This traditional windmill 'De Koe' (The Cow) is a relatively young one as it was built in 1909. It's situated on the north east part of the peninsula Walcheren, Zeeland, The Netherlands there where its predecessor (built in 1736) was destroyed by fire.

The Cow is still capable of grinding. When I took this capture it was grinding indeed, which can be seen by the on the wings attached sails.

A perfect day for taking a photo and for grinding. Both achieved by your eye and finger.

We have some windmills here in California, but they are for wind energy and look pretty mundane and industrial. This windmill is full of history and elegance. Perfect angle. Love the fence posts in the foreground surrounded by the foliage on both sides to give the shot real depth.

Perfect capture of this windmill scene. Reminds me of the Tulips and windmills we see in Pella Iowa this time of year.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Growing up on the North Dakota Plains (and working six years on a ranch), I am quite familiar and sometimes conversant with cows, so I am guessing that it's only Dutch cows that grind... rather than moo. But I grow facetious. I have appreciated architectural photos for years, a development from my decades as an historical artist, but it drives me to inject here my favorite poem, one written by Ogden Nash many years ago, titled "The Cow".

The cow is of the bovine ilk;
One end moo, the other, milk.

Happy Trails, C.
