Sorry if she's sideways. I didn't have anything but a camera to get the picture captured. I tried a few variations on the pic and the only one that worked was no flash. I would like a few suggestions. A good camera, for instance. Honestly, I need some tips on how to do her skin a little more realistically. She looks fake to me. Any pointers that would help the look would be good--I wanted her to look like me, I failed. I don't look that good XD!

This is so good!!! The eyes are my favorite part but i love it all! You said that you wanted an honest opinion and heres mine:
She seems a little too skinny, and that may be unreal looking.
I am no artist myself with the pencil so I really dont no how to help you with the skin, it just seems a little too freckly to me. (I guess I image the texture of her sholder continuing on the the rest of the body)
All and all she is a great work and should be framed and put on a wall somewhere. (somewhere were all will see it)

None of the ideas expressed above are actually mine. They are told to me by Luthor and Ferdinand, the five inch tall space aliens who live under my desk. In return for these ideas, I have given them permission to eat any dust bunnies they may find under there.

The slenderness gives her an Art Deco feel, very 1920's. You have to take these pictures without flash, and as far away as possible using zoom. Since it is likely to be dark, use a low f stop and a tripod. Also a low ISO number and definitely use RAW otherwise the blank areas will not work well as JPEG has difficulty coping with them. For camera advise ask in the discussion boards, there you will get much information. I just use a point and click one so am not really qualified to say.

sweetness! I love the hair, and i think the shoulder looks fab. You're right, it doesn't look completely real- but I think the more cartoon-like drawings work really well in some instances. Maybe softening the lines in her face (such as he nose) would help. I've struggled with accurate shading and such too... So I'm, not much help there. Keep drawing :) -R

Thanks guys. I really want more input. Honestly though, her thinness is from my own. I really was that skinny when I drew the pick. I ~ahem~ am not now. My mom beefed me back up when I came to visit.
I have a relatively inexspensive set up for the camera, unfortunately, I can't do the trypod thing because I don't have one, and setting her anywhere else in the house would have looked orange.
On her skin, I tend to agree with the freckles statement. She did have a bit much. I don't but my skin is that shiny/oily, so that's why she's sort of glowing.
Keep 'em coming. I need the improvement.

I haven't been on in years. Wow. So happy to be back. Truth be told, I talked down how thin I actually was: I was suffering from anorexia at the time, but tried to cover it up. I was a 5'9" 129# woman, and I still thought I needed to lose more weight. Now I'm built like my lovely Christa, a mommy, wife, and happy little clubbers. <3
