Went biking last weekend and captured this little fella mid-flight at Allen Bill on the Elbow River in Kananaskis, Alberta. Anyone know what kind of bird this is?
(Taken with an Olympus E500 at 150mm, f6.3, 1/400, ISO-100)
"The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place; from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web." Pablo Picasso
Looks like some kind of sand piper ( i know the bird just cant think of name ) I too am trying to catch a pic like this with my e500..... but i wont catch the wings right
It's a spotted sandpiper. If you use a larger aperture, like 4.0, or raise your ISO to at least 200, you can boost your shutterspeed to at least 1/1000 and completely stop the wing movement on a shot like this. For a bird far away, it probably doesn't have to be quite that high to stop motion, but it should be higher than 1/400. It takes a while to get used to, but you will with enough shots :)
