I know, another poppy, but I am so intoxicated by their beauty.

Most botanists believe that Papaver Somniferum, the opium poppy, descended from a wild poppy growing in the Western Mediterranean.

Active chemicals in the poppy are our best painkillers and take the forms of Morphine, Codeine, Heroin, Kompot, Oxycodone, Methadone and Fentanyl. There has been found no substitute for her painkilling properties, but the price she extracts for her relief of our pain is her addictive sting.

This information has been paraphrased from a book called THE POWER OF THE POPPY by Kenaz Filan.

Cindy - The intricate details of the flower parts show nicely here, with the deep color of the petals for contrast. Thad

Your poppy shots are exceptional Cindy. Beautiful clarity and detail.

We once had a beautiful border of these flowers and on Christmas Eve when we were at a church service someone came and pinched the lot, roots and all. Perhaps they were intending to make pot pourri as gifts lol

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

I commented on this shot yesterday, Cindy, but I must have fallen asleep before I hit the "Post this Comment" button. My recollection is that I complimented you on your exacting DoF and your knowledge of your camera's most sensitive nether regions. The detail of the flower is wonderful while the flower just behind it is blurred just enough to create some masterful depth. I could do without this particular color, but I'll overlook my upset stomach because of the beautiful work you did with the focus.
