20s exposure. i found out my tripod really sucks, it wasnt even very windy, i wasnt using the extension, and this is realtively crisp for an f/14 picture compared to the other ones for that day that were similar length exposures....need to find a better way.....:P

Well this turned out very nice in my opinion. Great idea for a timed exposure. I would try adding some weight to the tripod to reduce the vibrations. The heavier the better. Perhaps a sling that could hold rocks if you are in the feild and place that on the tripod.

ih? It looks just fine....just hang onto the camera and the tripod will stay where it is.

I reckon it looks great! Releasing the shutter with your finger can induce vibration, if your camera has a self timer it will allow vibrations from pressing the shutter to quell before the exposure begins.

Wow! Very nice. But I'm unable to know the size of the image. Is it a macro or a large landscape? Well done, Carl :-)

the eddie was probably about 10-15 feet long. i was using a self timer, although the d70 doesnt have mirror lock up. i like the bag with rocks idea. sometime with my dads old manual camera i want to try doing a star trails one and i'll use that. i thought my setup was already pretty heavy with a 80-200 2.8, but not with the old tripod. good new tripods are like 200 bucks, and thats hard to justify, so i'll just have to find a way to make long exposures with this work

Not heavy enough if it is windy...also check that the lock knob for the center column is tightened as a cheaper tripod usually has a lot of movement in the column. I have the cheaper Velbon tripod now for 20 years and is quite heavy. I have gotten timed exposures of Polaris about 4 hours long...very cool:-)

thanks, i looked at that tightener for the center column and found that it only locks if it is extended a little ways. it appears the knob has indented the aluminum, and wont tighten in that place anymore. i always wondered how i could get rid of that little bit of movement. i'll also try just using the legs extended 2/3rds or something

I miss 100% of the shots I don't take.
