on a -30 morning.....the sun was shining through horror frosted trees because of all the steam coming off the Bow River. my d70 only lasted for about 30 pictures, then i used my dads old *completely* manual camera. it was very cold, a high of below -40 with windchill, and the steam from the river only made it colder

Sounds like a really harsh environment, but an amazing photo, you can really feel the chill although i have to say i have no comprehention of how cold -30 is. Where abouts we you for it to be so cold?

not fog....steam off the sub zero-half frozen river. its pretty impressive when the air is a dry -35c how much steam a river can make.

Your verbal description and the image almost make me shiver. Sure glad I live in more temperate climates. Wonderful job of conveying the feeling...

Interesting capture. You do come from cold country! That sun is shining through, but I'm sure you could'nt feel it - especially with that windchill brrrrr. I like the B/W..is there a color image too? That steam is impressive surrounding the trees & brush. This image definately shows the effects of extreme chill. Thanks Carl, for this freezing view :*>
