this was a compilation of 5 separate ~5 minute exposures for a grand total exposure of just over 26 minutes. a difficulty experienced was that the -20C temperature not only froze MY buns off, but it killed my camera battery so that it took over 20 seconds to process each image before i could take the next one. this resulted in gaps between all the stars when i put it together, so it took ALOT of CLONING time in PS, you may still see a few gaps in the fainter stars. unfortunately there was a fair bit of cirrus type clouds, so the stars are only clear in one portion of the image. f/5.6 ISO 200 10mm :)

I think the tree line needs some work. The top of the trees are dark and the bottom are light. anywho, you are a braver man then i. I stay inside when it gets that cold. Where is this taken? I don't recognize it. Did you take it last night after i dropped you off, or is it old?

Ohhh this reminds me of the skating rink I used to go to when I lived in North Dakota for a while...it was wonderful ! I will never forget that it was so quiet you could actually hear the snow falling on the ground..........a soft shhhhhhhhhhhhhh...you have captured this so perfectly. I know it took a lot of work, but look at what you got as a "trophy"...something to be so proud of! Those stars! How many of us get to take a photo like this !!! not many. Thank you ever so much, its going st raight onto my desktop for the next one week. V

Well, I think the freezing was worth it to experiment in this way. You are braver than me also. So my closest guess at the amount of exposures was to reduce the amount of noise...looks like it worked. That is a great idea. Have you tried a selection of the sky and applied a motion trail filter to it?

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

So what created that glow on the horizon? It looks like a sunset, but I'm guessing it was something else?
