It's a ... thingamajig. Native to planets with a troposphere and that have a neighbouring star within 3 light years.
Pretty sure 'bout dat.

Oh, dear. The caffeine is really kicking in now ...
/\ Kidding, kidding ... maybe?
Ahem ...
Agree with you on the uniqueness of this bloom. I wouldn't have a clue as to how to classify this plant. The center portion almost looks like it will bear a kind of fruit at some point.
In all politeness and sincerity ... perhaps a re-visit is in order?
Not sure if what my eyes are seeing/noting is the result of some motion blur (wind or otherwise) while taking the shot?
Most certainly though, giving you a thumbs up on the post processing. Didn't even notice at first. That is, until I started to take in the background (after taking in the flower) and then the colour match (of sorts) got my editing senses tingling.
There is a very nice quality to the light captured within frame. :o)
So, yes.
Most interesting specimen. And if available to you, I do believe you can elevate it's uniqueness the next go round quite readily and easily.
So ... same time, same place ... same bloom ... I shall stay tuned to the same channel. And wait for this one's successor ... here. :o)
"There is always something waiting at the end of the road ... if you're not willing to see what it is ... you probably shouldn't be out there in the first place."
Stephanie - You've photographed the dogwood flower. The soft focus is both pretty and a bit of a detraction, as one might be looking for a sharper focus. Thad
