Sorry, I am not fully knowledgable on geography, is the city really sinking or is the water rising? Good capture though, the slight blur makes it rather abstract. Thanks for sharing.
I think the water is rising, just like they say eventually California and Florida will dip off in to the ocean from the melting ice caps and whatnot. I'm not 100% sure though. It's sad that Venice may someday be gone, but hopefully not in my lifetime as I want to go back. I have several other photos too.
Yes, the water is rising. But Venice is also sinking. Remeber, it's name means "We made it." It was founded by refugees fleeing from invaders - they founded it in a really inhospitable place - the marsh. The soft ground sinks beneath any structures not built on piers.
Take it from Me. I own a house in New Orleans, and work for the Corps of Engineers who are responsible for keeping the water out of New Orleans - a city likewise endangered by rising waters and sinking land..
This is quite a subtly beautiful image. I love all of the different elements and contrasts, the old steps and the newer gondola. The light and dark areas and objects. Very well done. 10 by me.
The steps underwater give a good effect of sinking. I like this image a lot. I've watched a few shows on these walls that will rise when the tide comes in at Venice. So far they are just planning, maybe one day they can save Venice. Great picture too!
