This was taken at Point Prim, Prince Edward Island, Canada, just after several recent posts of the Point Prim lighthouse. The image is unretouched except for having removed a small lense reflection in the lower right quad. I don't know why the sun appears like this in the image. Any ideas? Dave

I have no idea...maybe some one with a brighter mind than mine will be able to give you some insight into this one, and I think that if I keep up being so "punny" I'll not be allowed to post on this site anymore..lol...it's a unique capture, but a brilliantly taken one, and I wish I had an answer for you. I'm going to subscribe to this discussion so I can find out the answer too :)PJ

Good one Dave, well I think it knows it's about to get wet and it's a little peeved. 6 yrs of college wasted. LMAO

No idea what may have caused it but it certainly is brilliance in the gorgeous orange sky. Truly a beautiful scene. Thanks for sharing it.

The horizon is a little off by about a half-degree counter-clockwise, but other than that it looks like it was a very peaceful sunset. From doing some quick searching on Google, it looks like this kind of effect can be the result of properties of the lens you used.

I love how the Sun looks in this picture. It's dreamy! The shot is just perfect and a really nice silohuette of the plants against the horizon. Good work!

It's a beautiful shot Dave with the darkened trees and shrubs in the foreground. My guesses about the sun looking like a star are that it must be an optical aberration caused by your lens or something in the atmosphere. I have never seen the sun looking like this, but I would ask you if it looked like this when you weren't looking through the viewfinder.
Other than that, I would say you've been blessed. I've heard that the sun can do amazing things like come close to the earth as it did at Fatima. So that leaves the question: Is it physics or metaphysics?

Never rebuke while you’re still indignant about a fault committed—wait until the next day, or even longer. Then calmly, and with a purer intention, make your reprimand. You’ll gain more by a friendly word than by a three-hour quarrel. -Josemaria Escriva

Very beautiful and interesting shot Dave. The golden colors and the darkened trees are simply beautiful in this. I have no idea why the sun appeared this way but If I were you, I would consider myself lucky to have captured it.
