In this shot you first see Legge's Mount which is part of the Outer Ward built between the years 1275 and 1285 by Edward I (reigned 1272-1307). Legge’s Mount offered protection to the northwest angle of the outer wall in the way the Brass Mount guards the northeast corner. The outer wall on Legge’s Mount was raised to its present height in 1683 to accommodate up to ninety gun batteries along the wall. The guns were to be placed on the wall during the reign Charles II. Behind the wall you can see two towers, Devereux tower and the Flint Tower The Devereux tower gets its name from Robert Devereux (1566-1601) who was imprisoned in the tower for treason and was executed. The Flint Tower was also built during the reign of Henry III. The origin of it’s name is unknown but it is believed that it was named the Flint Tower because the towers face was covered with flint stone. At the top of the photo you can see two of the steeples of the White Tower.
