This 10-Yuan silver proof is for Roseman_Stan. It is one of the most beautiful coins produced in the People's Republic of China featuring the Temple of Heaven on the obvers and the lucky panda on the reverse.

In China, the panda is a symbol of good luck, but it may be a little less fortunate here in the States.

In 2006, a flood of counterfeit pandas came onto the market, and were frequently encountered on eBay through sellers located in China. Many of these were easily distinguishable from the real thing by the lack of a denomination, which almost all pandas have.

Some counterfeits include the denomination, and are difficult to distinguish from a real one without weighing them, or comparing them to a known real coin.

A random lot of 45 pieces purchased at a coin show, in the Denver area, in 2006 exhibit the dates 1989 through 2000. None of that lot had the numeric denomination.

Enjoy.

I found your commentary very interesting Don, if a little disappointing. This is a really great capture of a beautiful looking coin, very nice.

Along with a well taken capture, the commentary on these coins is quite interesting. Now can I borrow another fiver?
