To borrow the immortal words of Mr. Foghorn Leghorn, "Looky here - I say looky here, boy. Those chickens ain't ducks, they're geese!" Caught on parade somewhere in Eastern Ontario during summer. No sky in this shot while I digest the tips I've been receiving on that. By the way, these guys are not currently in Eastern Ontario. By now they have ducked south to warmer climes, which strikes me as an idea to emulate.

What a luck find, Ed. Nice angle for the composition. One thing could be better. The space in front of a subject's direction of travel or gaze should be approximately 2/3rds greater than the distance to the rear (in this case the last gosling). If you cropped anything from the right border, it could use about 2.5 times the space from beak to border to improve overall balance and smooth viewing flow.

Boy of boy, Edwin, You just can't seem to win with Doug. Actually he's been helping me quite a bit with my composition as well. With my shots, he sends me an email with an edited version, calls me demeaning names and swears at me like a drunken sailor. Just kidding about the drunken part. :-)

I agree once again with Doug's comments. I will also add that while there is no sky in this shot, there is way too much sky reflection. Actually there's not enough sky reflection. Actually it's just right.

Just ignore the first two paragraphs. It's a wonderful capture. The stony shore makes a perfect counterbalance. Like Doug says give the lead goose some more room and you've got a solid 8.5 here. Right now it's a 7.

I'm not afraid of dying. I just don't want to be there when it happens.

I know the advice I'm getting about leaving more room between the lead beak and the right edge is excellent because I've given identical advice to others. :-) It is indeed best if an on-the-move photo inhabitant does not look like he's about to smash into the end of image area. In this case I had no more image to include and I'm not skilled enough to fudge in fake water. On the other hand, just so you know, this goose is moving very slowly so the bump will be gentle. No geese were harmed in the preparing of this photo. Many thanks for the comments. Please keep them coming.
