In 1540 Francisco de Montejo junior built a small church in honor of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception. This construction was made from lime and stone, with thatched roofs. On October 22, 1760 work finished on the construction of the chapel of Jesus Nazareno, and of the tower by the sea, La Espaņola, where the first public clock was erected and a Spanish coat of arms carved in stone that occupied the center, which was ordered to be destroyed after Mexico independence. Between 1849 and 1850 he built the land side tower, known as La Campechana, a clock of 4 luminous masks that is still in working order and was installed in this tower in 1916. The chapel of Jesus Nazareno is located in the courtyard.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
