This picture was taken for a (commercial) print campaign for Canon. It was (analog) taken with Nikon F4 on infrared black&white negative film (just to get the grain) and duplicated on Kodak 5x4" Ektachrome in order to get a transparency in blue for printing. The shot is taken somewhere in the late '80ties. For me still a picture which emphasize the loneliness for anyone who is physically disabled.

---a picture which emphasize the loneliness for anyone who is physically disabled---

You're right Evert. Even without narrative it's very clear.
Professional art again my friend. Thanks for sharing your excellent work with us.
Regards, Cornelius.

That someone can end up like that, no family of friends who will take care of him, gives me a sad feeling. :o\

The blue tones and the lighting emphasize the loneliness very well.

Such a sad lonely photo. Is it just me, or do I find it funny that it was done for Canon but taken by a Nikon?

Amazing job.

You really left no creative stone unturned with your image here, Evert.

Grain, colour overlay, composition, lighting ... et al.

Particularly and immediately ... and what first struck me was, the 'blue'. Every element fits so so ... well, to complete a most congruent 'message' to the viewer.

Have a question for you, though.

In thumbnail size 'it' is more apparent and that is what gave rise to the question to follow ... adding in, that 'it' is mitigated some when viewed full-size.

'It' being the colour of the matte.

I can't quite clarify my thoughts with what is to follow, however, had the thought/idea of simply that of a white matte.

Not sure, might convey 'sterile'? Perhaps? With respect to the existence of this person. And in somewhat keeping with the overall theme.

Maybe your answer can illuminate my thoughts, as to your decision to carry over the colour to that of the accompanying matte. I shall await your response, right here. :o)

... ...

Lots of lessons, once again, to be learned and gleaned for those that take the time to view your work here, Evert.

Thank you for sharing your talents and 'instruction' with us. This viewer appreciates all that you give to 'us'. :o)

What a great thought provoking image, Evert. It makes you want to stop and reflect on all our blessings, yet realize how fragile life is. Fantastic lighting and a super picture. My compliments.

Er gaat nogal wat door mij heen als ik deze foto zie. Het prachtige licht maakt de sfeer niet vrolijker. Dramatisch en zeer goed! Mich

What an intensely emotional picture. You have for sure captured the isolation of this man and his soul. Very moving!

The solitude in this photo is amazing. It's 'one feeling, one line of thought, one person' and it all leads to our having the "fellow feeling" between us and this person. You have helped us to enter into his aloneness. You have such a professional and yet tender talent, and it all shows in your photography. It bring us to our knees, so to speak, to feel what this message portrays. My dear friend..thank you. Verena

i was also wondering why you were taking stuff for canon with a nikon! hehe.... as for the shot, it portrays very well the feeling of isolation especially as you cannot see his face in the shot either. i like the blue too, very nice stuff indeed.

I like the blue tones a lot and this is stuffed with emotion. I'm not sure that the noise isn't just a touch too much.... but I really admire your skill Evert, I wouldn't have a clue where to start to try to do something like this using film.

I think this is the most powerful image you've posted here. A real photojournalistic feel from the grain to the sterile, undecorated, cheerless walls. Light is usually used to convey hope, but not here.
