.....the nursery rhyme that has a meaning, especially when associated with the little village of Eyam in Derbyshire. Many of the buildings and houses date back many centuries. The village has an interesting past - in 1665 the whole village isolated itself when its inhabitants were hit by the bubonic plague to prevent neighbouring villages contracting the disease. It was in one of the little cottages here (so called Plague cottages) where the plague was first contracted, when a tailor took delivery of a package from London, which was contaminated with the bubonic plague germs. Out of 350 inhabitants, 256 people died. If you check the link above, it will tell you a little more about it.

Very nice shot and an interesting story. I see they even had TV way back then...and here we thought we invented it.

Hi Patti, Another nice one from Eyam,Thanks for link, You know I'd love to be able to live and settle in one of these beautiful villages.I'm beginning to hate the city life, unfortunately that's where the jobs are,And that also means thats where our children are,and so we continue.Oh well at least that means our visits are more special for all that .Plus we have you to post these lovely pic's.Thanks again ....Tony.

Thank you for the link. I had heard of the way this song had come about, but as kids here in the NE we used to sing it "Ring around the Rosie..." And I could never quite fit that in with the explanation I heard. Now that I know the correction wording of the rhyme, it makes a lot more sense. :) You 've also presented a very nicely composed pic, and on my puter it is a little dark, which adds to the gravity of the lesson you sent. Thanks. :)PJ

Reading about this was fascinating. What courageous people they were! And we certainly got a diluted version of that song here - Ring around the rosie, a pocket full of posies, ashes, ashes, we all fall down. I had no idea what this referred to but now I do! The detail in the cottages is wonderful, Patti. Looks like they've updated the windows. Love your composition. Thanks so much for sending out such interesting history! Patty

Isn't it funny that most of Nursery Rhymes...all relate to something terrible!
This is very good Patti... I love the angle you shot this with the perspective of those houses leading to that lovely sky!
