...now this is not the sort of bird you expect to find on most beaches! lol! I was in a car driving past this beach when I spotted what I think is a crane just strolling along the beach. He was a huge bird and I was a bit frustrated that I did not have my zoom lens in order to get a better photograph of him. I had to crop quite a lot of the photograph to post this one. It was not worth cropping any more because it would have been too pixelated! :) ......but still I wanted to share this with you. :)

That looks like a lost flamingo, huh?? You know they get their pink color from the shrimp they eat. Maybe he's been eating something different to give him that color.

I agree with the above. It does look like a lost flamingo. Good job in the cropping dept

I applaud your crop job, and respect your judgment as to whether or not to crop even further, and you are right that too much of a good thing can ruin a perfectly fine take. I don't need to get up close and personal with this bird in this particular setting, because the composition as a whole is appealing and pleasant to the eye as well.... IMHO ....as well worth the effort to glance around at all the differing elements that are given to us with such clarity and commendable delivery . ...something that I really like about this pic, especially when considering it for a desktop is the gentle gradiations of the colors from the light touch of pink in the sky to the light blue, then down to the horizon with the darker aspect of the water leading us up to the shoreline with the appearance of not only the tan colors, but also the texture that is so evident in the rocks as they blend flawlessly into the darker coffee color in the foreground. It's exquisite in its simplicity. :)PJ

i've never seen a crane so this is very educational for me. i would not have guessed about all the cropping. it looks quite clear to me. lucky you for this opportunity. jen

Patti, that has got to be a flamingo, look at the head shape. I have never seen one on a beach! A most unusual capture.

That ain't no crane with a beak like that. That's a lost flamingo with a different diet. Where did you take this picture? it's still a good capture of the bird.

thanks for putting me right on the fact it is a flamingo. :) I thought it looked just like a flamingo but the colour threw me (I had no idea they changed colour because they ate shrimps - he needs to change his diet) lol! now I discover from my sister that there was a place nearby called Tropicana where they have quite a few exotic birds so it is most likely he had strayed from there. :) Patti
ps and now I see the horizon is tilting slightly and that is going to bug me - must have been that glass of wine! hehe!

the flamingo might not be pink but the stoney sand is!
matching in pastel colour quality the turquoise of the water and sky
very nicely done!

the positioning of the bird looking outward from the frame is inspired

just one thing ...... HORIZONTAL :P~ héhé

What a gorgeous shot of a flamingo, Patti, in his natural state without the shrimp :) We can fix the tilt; I'm just glad you shared this because it's lovely!

It must be a male because it doesn't want to ask directions on which way he needs to go LOL. I bet you were surprised to see this huge bird on the beach. Excellent capture of it and you did a wonderful job of cropping here.

I can't imagine seeing a flamingo outside of a zoo! I saw somewhere they do not come into there full pink color until they reach full maturity. Maybe this is just a juvenile out for a stroll, lol. Whatever, very neat capture!
