Nice one Patti, I loved Thomas the train engine a lot when I was young, I even sat in it in a shoppingcentre, somewhere in England! :)

These old trains had so much more character than the ones of today...a fascinating look at days-gone-by and a great capture.

Due to the recent slow down of the site, my comments and thank you's have been few as it was very time-consuming...will catch up ASAP...meanwhile, a group thank you to all and keep up the great work everyone.

Very nice, great that we get to see the inside of your museums to ! :-)

About this train, Newton-le-Willows, it was build in 1911, Serial number: 3157.
The locomotive was originally built for the North Western Railway of India in 1911 at the Vulcan Foundry works and given the works no. 3064. In most respects it is a typical example of a locomotive of about 1900. This was one of the first superheated engines built by Vulcan, which first supplied locomotives with Phoenix smokebox superheaters to the North West India Railway in 1911. Later locomotives were fitted with Robinson-type or Schmidt-type superheaters, which had piston valves instead of slide valves.

In case you want to visit this museum yourself :

Liverpool Road, Castlefield Manchester M3 4FP.

The Museum of Science & Industry in Manchester is
open every day except December 24th, 25th & 26th from 10.00am-5.00pm.
Entry to the Museum is free, but there is a charge for Special Exhibitions.

Thanks Patti ! now i am curious to see what more photos you will post.

hehe he, i just googled your museum Patti, and looked at the exibithons going on.
Copied and pasted the text in the reply without reading it LOL, but now i just did hehehe. Reading the museum text, i see it was used in India. well the cows are sacred overthere, now, have a look at the fence before the front wheels... my guess is that this fence did not make many friends overthere when hitting a overheated Indian cow...
A superheated engine (build by Vulcan) would create havoc to heavenly cows i would imagine, but who am i after all..

Reading through the comments, you get a feeling of the "community" spirit at this site. Patti, I think you got Hans' attention. But before I forget, this is a very nice image probably taken in less than stellar conditions. Terrific clarity and the education bestowed by Hans is a nice plus. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice shot, lots of detail, and I like the lighting. One small detraction, however. I would've preferred a slight space buffer between the front of the train, and the right edge of the frame. as it is, it looks a bit..crowded.
