.....here you see a part of old Manchester which runs alongside the Rochdale Canal in Castlefield which will soon be bought back to life once again. Unfortunately, meanwhile it has succumbed to the inevitable vandalism which is a reality in a lot of big cities! I was tempted to clone out the broken windows but this is real life, so I left them in. Originally built as a congregational chapel in 1853, the building has since been used as a Mission Hall, Christian Science Church, an Auction Room and most recently the basement of the building was used by Rick Waterman as a recording studio. The plans now are for .....you have guessed! - it will be turned into a pub! ...but it will be tastefully done as planning rules are now quite strict ....so when it has undergone its transformation I will be back to photograph it again, although I expect that the exterior will not change much, part from the windows, but it will be interesting to see the inside! :)

I'm glad that you didn't clone out the broken windows. God, it has been used for very varied purposes. LOL This is a great perspective on this spot. beautiful and enjoyable. :)

Cheers to you on this post. There's a lot to look at and your information made it easier. I fav'd it because of that Jeopardy thing I was talking about in Jan's posts. There's a lot of rejuvenating going on all over the US. It's not just in larger cities either. Everything is being restored. Makes you wonder why they let it go to begin with. Hopefully, it will be better taken care of this time around. Just love the angle. It almost looks like it's done in miniature, which I like. Good post.

Your photo has value in the historical sense. You have captured its past and present. And, of course your photo has artestic value. Its composition is well planned, you have wonderful clarity and detail, and your reflections are fantastic. The first thing, however, that I noticed were the broken windows. And, I guess, that no matter how unfortunate that may be to the honor and pride of the community, it is a reality and now part of the beauty and charm of the building's past and present. It will be renovated and fixed and its future will become its new history, but you have captured for us, and all time, the beauty of this building's present. When it is a pub, you may want to invite us all there and we can lift a pint and salute the old girl.

A great post - the commentary brings the whole thing to life - and what a life it has had.
Good work Patti - I wonder what the pub will be called - Rochdale Arms, Pattis Post, The Boat and Bridge. . . . getting carried away . .

There's a lot of sadness in post-industrial scenes but a lot of interest also, and you've captured both beautifully in this crisp and well composed shot. And what perspicacity - I see that you've already had a word with the management, and got them to put out some benches for one of our fellow Caedesians in readiness for the building becoming a pub! Lol!

Striking color here. Hardly a ripple in the water reflection gave me the sensation I was looked at an "optical illusion". The broken windows take nothing away from the image as I see it. Excellent focus and perspective make this a winner Patti

A stellar shot Patti. Your photographic skills get better and better! Marvelous capture of the old being replaced...happens everywhere. The old style building is beautiful, even tho vandalized. Beautiful reflections, benches and curved bridge. I love seeing the brick work. What can I say - I love this, AND I think it will be a great pub :)

Spectacular shot, Patti. Your composition is first-rate, and the colors are sharp and in good contrast. I like the way you organized the bridge, so it gently arches across the top of the image only to come to rest at the center of the left side of the image. On the right the buttress anchors the image, while the crisp reflections draw me into the lower part of the image. This shot is a cornucopia od visual technique. Thanks for sharing it with us.
