....the golden orb which is in the centre of the courtyard of Pigan at the Vatican Museums I have done some research and now you will know what it is all about: This bronze sculpture is called Sphere Within Sphere (Sfera Con Sfera) and it measures four meters in diameter. It was created by artist Arnaldo Pomodoro in 1990 for the Vatican Museums. Pomodoro's speciality is the casting of gigantic columns and/or globes. In this magnificent sculpture, the fractured surface of the outer sphere reveals a very complex inner sphere that represents the harsh difficulties that the modern world finds itself in at the end of the second millennium.

Thought at first sight that it was a symbol of something else, but I don't know. Interesting image Patti which made me that curious that I will search now where it really stands for. Thanks for this very nice post. Regards, Cornelius

Interesting story, Pattie ... and a really vivid capture.

Actually, I think that cracked orb is really a humongous alien cyborg in the process of hatching.

Very cool Patti! I've gotta admit though, I was thinking along the same lines as Tecumseh up there. What kind of hellish mechanical beast must be getting ready to burst forth from that weird alien egg? =P

A very interesting shot Patti. The contrast between the gleaming novelty of the globe and the old decorated wall behind it is beautifully depicted.

Allright, although the sculpture looks great, and speaks for itselve after your explainment, i just hate to see money wasted by any church. Since there is still so much to be taken care of in this world of ours, i wonder why any church would spend such vasts amounts of money leading to nothing helpfull, or aid to the less...
I have never understood that ..

I like this golden ball and of course the reflections you captured here - the chain is a little problem and maybe the reason, why this image does not have the cow index, it deserves.

Very good shot. About the sculpture: there's one similar of the same artist, in front the Italian Foreign Office, in Piazza della Farnesina.
Very well done indeed.
