...Legend has it that nine ladies were turned to stone for dancing on the Sabbath!! ...but the stones are part of an embanked stone circle built around 4000 years ago on Stanton Moor in Derbyshire. At the 'Nine Ladies Stone Circle', rituals and ceremonies took place concerned with living and working, life and death! Some may have been everyday; others would have been more special, concerned perhaps with the seasons and fertility. ...In fact ceremonies still take place today. I found tealights on all the stones and ribbons tied to the tree closeby! ...so just remember, no dancing on the Sabbath!! ;) lol!

Very nice shot, I like how the white frame accentuates the image rather than be distracting. Good job!

I'd be dancing there on each sabbat if I had the chance!

I can't dance on any day of the week, let alone Sunday. Great looking photo and love the legend. I always believe the legend. Makes for a more interesting world. The framing on this one is exquisite. How did you do that? Trade secret I suppose. The darkness of photo just adds to mystery and myth. Good one Patti.

My, my, way too late with that advice. My yard is filled with these Sabbath Dancers stones! It is really hard to cut the grass. Now that I know what is causing this problem, I am going to turn off the CD player next Sunday. lol.

Very good presentation, colors, and narrative. It was worth waiting a day to see.

It's wonderful...And I'm amazed at the age of the circles. The history is fantastic and you've told in a compelling way, both in words and image. The lighting is perfect for this ambience. :)

Nice work Patti, the ring of stones set off by the ring of trees and the clouds angled perfectly too. I like the story a lot, I wonder who left the tealights there and what they were celebrating.
