....and where better for a fool to hang out than a folly on a hill ....'the Cage' in Lyme Park - a folly built as a hunting lodge and later used as a lock up for poachers! I recently posted another image, this is a close-up - I particularly like the silhouettes of people in this image and the bright low sunlight reflecting on the windows.

Quite an atmospheric shot to my eyes Patti.

And inasmuch as the people present giving some sense of perspective ... I personally would prefer that left to my imagination and might have been tempted to clone the individuals out. Looks doable.

That said, it looks like we agree to disagree on the inclusion of the silhouettes.

If I may, one more suggestion ... and again, this might reside with me only ... some ... some, Shadow/Highlight adjustment in Photoshop might be interesting to see the impact that that would have on the overall mood and feel.

Nice colour and exposure of the sky. Which is my segue of sorts to point you to this quick synopsis of metering for your camera, which I came across the other day. Just an f.y.i. which might be appropriate to this situation, and that you may or may not be aware of ... go here. Other links to other aspects found at the top.

Yeah, nice shot.

And but of course, thank you for sharing this one with us. :o)

thanks for your comments Les. ...and about the people - well I have taken several photos of this folly and some with and some without people, but I just trust my instinct about an image and in this case the people added to the atmosphere of the image - so I have not really agreed to disagree about anything, but at the same time value your comments and like that you have freely expressed yourself! :) this was another experiment with adding saturation and toning and reducing sharpening, but I am also aware of metering which is centered.

It never bothered me to have poachers in photo. lol I like the close-up as well. Just lock the poachers up and it will solve Les' disdain for them. Good coloring, composition and presentation. Good post Patti.

I think it's perfect and really like the slight glow on the front of the stone. The Sky has a wonderous shade of almost purple but lighter. Good job Patti, I thought you named it after me though and was a little disappointed. ROFL

I'm no expert but I feel the people really add life to the image, I would definitely not clone them out. So glad you shared another image of this place and the sun on the windows is wonderful, it looks like there's lights inside, very cool.

Well it is still hard to believe for me that it is realy a folly. this house seems large enough to be real, but you showed me the property on a air photo earlier, and then yes, it is just a folly :-) Great image, good mood with very nice colors, nearly at sun set. Good one and thanks for the posting.

Such atmosphere - I am in favour of the people - and they also give some pespective as to the size of the cage.

This is an interesting image, Patti. There's something almost surreal about it - like something Magritte might have painted - I guess because of the unusual juxtaposition of the image elements. It's as if we've been allowed just a little view of a whole world going on: why are those people there, what are they up to, and what are they discussing? I like the low sunlight in the windows too!

I agree Fogz, the light in the windows is really good and the silhouettes make it. Without them I don't think you'd get such a good sense of scale. It's quite a romantic winter image, two couples wrapped up warm together against the cold and the light in the windows could almost be a real fire. Almost worth coming home for!
