......the castle of Mont Orgueil in Gorey, Jersey, built in the 13th century as the island's main defence against the French whose coastline was only 14 miles away. During the next century it survived sporadic attacks-and a 7 year occupation- by the French and was the English Crown's administration centre, home to the Governor of Jersey. It was also a desolate home to debtors, criminals and the occasional suspected witch. :O This photograph was taken at high tide, while my last photograph I posted of Mont Orgueil Castle was taken at low tide.

As You may know I like Castles and this is very huge and like the Italian coast castles had the same function of being guardian of part of the territory in front of the sea, while in Italy were more typically dedicate to check and monitor the Saracens attacks versus the coast.

Suspected witch?! Wow, I bet that's creepy. 'Orgueil' in French means 'Pride' so it's Mount Pride castle - fits doesn't it. I like your presentation of it too Patti, with the row of pretty coloured houses at the bottom and the wave reaching across the scene in the foreground.
