....aptly named as I do not know its name! lol! It looks like a thistle but had quite a large head. Photographed in the gardens of Biddolph Grange Gardens in Cheshire.

Why not live a little and look at My Gallery.
You would know what this was if you had my garden, they contrast so welkl with the dandelions lol -
A wonderful thistle - gorgeous purple colour, perfect presentation.
Exceptionally excellent :)
Something different from you Patti, and I like it. I think it could be a Nigella? I'm serious. They have this kind of blue flower and look a bit like a thistle. There's nice light and great DOF control here, Bob's right it's a great foofie.
sorry if i don't comment on each of your pictures. to those of you who comment so often, i can't imagine how you get it done! i for one am always extremely grateful for the kind comments and suggestions that you make.

Wow Patti, thats one of your best shots ever, it is just superb, the colour, depth of field, framing . . . all, perfect, if I get this in the VB, it will get a big ten from me.
Great shot Patti, I believe this is the flower of a Cardoon which is a member of the Artichoke family. The leaf stalks are a real treat in early spring. I grow them all over our property, they can get 8 to 10 feet tall, make great wind blocks and are a perenial here in Oregon. The Flowers, as you see from you great post, are great for arrangements in the fall.

Lovely shot, Patti, with some great shades and contrasts. As .ironjoe has commented, this is cardoon. It's a Victorian vegetable that dwindled in popularity becasue cooking the heads was such a fuss and bother it was hardly worth it. However, it seems now to be enjoying a comeback. Can't say I've ever tried them, but I'll take .ironjoe's word for it that the stalks are tasty!
I much appreciate all the comments I receive about my images, but please excuse me if I don't always reply. My interest in Caedes is exceeding my time available!
