...the former el Glaoui palace built in the 19th century. The el Glaoui clan controlled one of the major southern caravan routes to West Africa and were given extensive power by the French during colonial rule in exchange for keeping the southern tribes subdued. Although located at a strategic junction of the caravan routes, the kasbah was never actually resided in by the el Glaoui chiefs. Housed here would have been the second tier of command, such as the dynasty's sons and cousins and their extended -- numbering in the hundreds -- entourages of servants, builders, and craftsmen. The palace has close to 300 rooms and within the kasbah were more than 20 riads

They look like sand castles Patti. The sky looks good with the patches of blue among the clouds. I don't think the curb is needed. It is kinda distracting.

Must have been a wonderful place to visit.

When I look at the pictures you are presenting of this vacation, I am reminded how much of the "past" is also the "present" and will be the same in "future" in that part of the world. Unfortuately, in our part of the world, we tear down our past to make room for another drug store or "neighborhood" bank or mega mall. Isn't progress nice?
