This is a juvenile Broad headed skink. The largest of the lizard family. This one was about 7 in. long but they can grow to be at least 12in. long and when grown their heads are wide, really red and shaped like a rattlesnakes. They give me the heebie jeebies but I know there are a few here who like to see things like this.Their favorite place to live is in old hollow trees. Thanks for looking!

Not being particularly scared or disgusted by them I can say that the image is both very instructive [also or mostly owing to the great commentary] and quite good looking !!! LOL
Image is beautiful I mean and the object quite handsome it its way ...

Wow... Eileen, a fantastic capture of this lizard. I have never seen one of this coloring before. I do not mind lizards, but snakes are a different story. A very nice & crisp image and thanks for sharing this fella or gal.

Oh look ...you embarrassed the little fellow.He's turned red...lol Great photo Eileen. Used to play with skinks when I was young..They are not as mean as Alligator lizards though. Good colors all around.. nicely done...Bill

What a neat looking little fella! We have skinks here but dont look much like him. They will drop their tails if you pick them up by it to escape! Be brave & try it sometime! lol (dont worry they grow back..lol) Nice shot of this cute little guy Eileen!! ~Dan-o

I think he is a ham. I like the color on his head and I am glad he was still enough for you to capture him.He has unique patterning and he is cute. It is safe to see him from my computer screen.
