This image was captured at about 14,000 feet as a cold front started to move into the area. Soon the clouds became so heavy that this image was totally lost .
What a wonderful tree. I really like the bristlecones. They grow in such interesting shapes. I like the way it is off-centered so you can see the clouds. Wonderful image
I saw this picture and new right away it was yours! It's so breathtaking; it would make a wonderful place to just sit and thank God for all the miraculous things we can look at! Thank you for capturing and sharing it - especially with the mist, symbolic of the temporalness and fragility of our lives on this earth. 10/10 here
A beautiful capture, Bob, perfectly framed. I love the exposure, slightly dark, contributing to the gloomy scene and tortured plant life. Well done! 10
I can say only good things about this image. The shape of the tree, the placement in the frame, the ethereal quality of the approaching fog and the sparseness of the ground on the far side of the tree, all lend a simple atmosphere with the feeling of pleasant solitude.

Photography is not a trade - it is an art. It is more that an art.
It is a solar phenomenon,
where the artist collaborates with the sun.

I hold it true that thoughts are things; They're endowed with bodies, breath and wings:
And that we send them forth to fill the world with good results, or ill.
That which we call our secret thought speeds forth to earth's remotest spot, leaving it's blessings or it's woes like tracks behind it as it goes.
We build our future, thought by thought for good or for ill, yet know it not.
Yet so the universe was wrought .
Thought is another name for fate.
Choose then thy destiny and wait, for Love brings Love and Hate brings Hate. - Henry Van Dyke.
Wonderful exposure to create a visually soft, almost delicate mood resulting in a strong capture of the feel of being in clouds high on a mountain. I'm wondering if having the bristlecone just a bit higher in the frame would enhance its isolation from the background a bit more?
I had not seen this before...and I am amazed at this photo...the loneliness of it, the way the tree stands proud...and the softness of the clouds around it, the foggy touch...it is one of thos magical photos! One of the BEST I've seen in years!!! it has so much character!! I love your photos...they inspire me not only to take more pics, but to write more poetry!!
Very cool-it looks like it was taken in the bushland of Australia (though I know it wasn't :) ) - because of the sparse scrub on the ground. It is very spooky, but in a beautiful, haunting way. I agree with Verena, it's one of the best photo's I've seen in a long time, with a really mystical feel. There's an Australian film called Picnic at Hanging rock, it reminds me of that, minus the rock...and the girls in colonial wear :)
Mesmerizing! When you stop and think that Bristlecone pines can be up to 9000 years old, you can only imagine what these trees have seen throughout thier existance. I could stare at this ethereal scene forever.
